The project was the new head office of the State Bank of Mauritius. The bank’s brief stated that the new building had to be the tallest building on the island but be acceptable to the local authority and in keeping with the surrounding area.
A limited design competition was held with CampbellReith being a member of the successful design team. When developing the scheme the client requested the use of steelwork as the prime structural material.
The suspended floors utilised composite metal deck fast- track construction techniques. It would be the first steelwork for the island as all the other major developments are constructed of reinforced concrete.
