Marriott Hotel, Heathrow

Whitbread Marriott is one of the largest and most luxurious hotels available to the millions of passengers who regularly use Heathrow, Europe’s busiest airport.

The 400 bedroom hotel represents the largest collaboration between Marriott Hotels from the USA and Britain’s largest leisure operator, Whitbread. It was designed to the highest construction standards to ensure that the hotel was successfully built as well as operated and maintained economically.

Intensive pre design studies by CampbellReith examined the various construction methods currently in use in the UK and resulted in the decision to opt for a Dutch Tunnelform System, utilising high waulity steel forms to provide a highly successful smooth concrete finish, which only required decoration by finishing trades.

A substantial open atria was provided at the front of the building with steel trusses supporting overhead plantrooms. Fast track methods were utilised throughout the project from the first stages of design through to installation of the pods, cladding, finishes and catering facilities.
