CampbellReith provided the rapid redevelopment of ‘relocation sites’ from the Olympic Park. The project was developed together with Heijmans Blackwell Remediation Ltd on behalf of the London Development Agency.
For each we have provided the design and implementation of the site remediation within our wider engineering remit. The challenge of these projects has been to deliver the completed sites within a very restricted time frame.
The redevelopments have been for both commercial premises (Thames Wharf Sites 2-4 and Millfields Waste Transfer Station) and residential purposes (Manor Road, Homerton Road, Lea Interchange, Wallis Road). At each site we have provided the detailed design and supervision of the construction.
CampbellReith designed and managed Phase 1 and Phase 2 site investigations and provided geotechnical advice with respect to foundations and floor slabs, roads and services, and earthworks.
Our general environmental services have included site supervision, verification reporting and advice in relation to waste classification. At the Millfields site in Hackney, considerable ‘unforeseen’ contamination was identified within the basements of a former power station and as a result we have provided a remediation strategy to remove hazardous contaminants, including asbestos.
An iterative redesign process of the proposed structures has also been completed, so as to minimise ground excavation.
