CampbellReith To Work On The New Earls Court Development Project

4 December 2014

The Earls Court Exhibition Centre, an exhibition, conference and events venue, originally opened in 1887 and was rebuilt in 1937 in its current art deco style exterior. It is widely known for serving as London’s premier exhibition hall for many decades, hosting the Royal Tournament and Motor Show, Ideal Home Show, the Brit Awards up until 2010, and a number of other notable events and concerts.

The Centre will be demolished in 2015 to make way for a massive redevelopment of the area.

The plans for the 77-acre redevelopment in Earls Court and West Kensington were approved in July 2013 and are expected to be completed in 2033. This project will create 7500 homes and thousands of permanent jobs.

CampbellReith is advising the joint venture team on the demolition and sections of the new build of public parks, residential and mixed use developments.

The practice has been providing structural and civil engineering services to Earls Court and Olympia Exhibition Centres since 1991. It has signed off shows varying from the Royal Tournament to the Artic Monkeys, Coldplay and U2 and the recent Victoria’s Secret Show.

CampbellReith’s engineers have worked on projects ranging from the Stamp Show through to the Ideal Home Show and Boat Show to K2 Ramp.

The K2 Ramp project consisted in the design of a steel framed braced structure, meant to transport vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes, from ground level to the second floor of the Earls Court Exhibition Centre.

The recent Earls Court 77 Event marked 77 years of entertainment and exhibitions at the Exhibition Centre. CampbellReith’s Mike Allen, Steve Calder and Tom Murray joined the long-term business partners to celebrate the Centre’s anniversary.
