Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Engineer with significant experience of structural engineering design who would enjoy greater responsibility for project production from inception to completion, whilst benefitting from oversight and guidance from a Partner or Associate. 

This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer looking for their next step as they will take responsibility for leadership and management of resources on a project basis, provide technical and commercial knowledge and liaise with the project Partner regarding possible changes to scope, circumstances or programme that may impact on cost.

This is a unique role for a Senior Structural Engineer to join CampbellReith’s Manchester office, working on and over-seeing an exciting mix of permanent building structures and temporary exhibition and event designs for high‑profile clients. The role offers hands‑on involvement from concept through to delivery, including design development, coordination, and on‑site sign‑off of event structures. This role suits a senior engineer who enjoys variety, client engagement, and working across multiple sectors within a collaborative, forward‑thinking team.

You will be working with a team of professionally chartered engineers (more than 40% of our structural engineers are chartered) who place real emphasis on developing the next generation of professional engineers. We offer a range of diverse and interesting projects and provide an inclusive and friendly workplace.

The role

You’ll work to deliver a variety of engineering projects to

  • Assist in the production of project management plans, appointment documents, financial management and invoice drafting.
  • Take responsibility for production of reports, calculations, specifications, drawings and models.
  • Undertake site visits, surveys, inspections and prepare reports or sections thereof.
  • Provide leadership and management to the Project Technical Team.
  • Manage and record health and safety risks and maintain Designer Risk Assessments.
  • Take responsibility for providing technical / commercial knowledge.
  • Working closely with the Project Associate / Partner, control our exposure to risk, and advise and update them on any possible changes to scope, circumstances or programme that may impact on cost, and agree actions.

About you

The role would suit an experienced engineer who is able to demonstrate creativity and innovation in structural engineering solutions in all typical building materials. Ideally, you’ll have:

  • BEng, MEng or MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Preferably Chartered MICE or MIStructE or expected to achieve Chartered status in the next 12 months.
  • Significant experience of typical British construction methods, standard details and guidance (Building Regulations, NHBC etc) and products including modular systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of the application of the CDM Regulations.
  • Proficiency in software including Masterseries and SCIA.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of the professional risks carried by the practice and the actions necessary to satisfy the terms of our appointments, warranties and insurances.
  • Candidates must hold a full UK driving licence and be flexible in their approach to work, with occasional travel to our Birmingham office and to event sites as required.

Training

CampbellReith operates a Company Approved Training Scheme through the Institution of Civil Engineers and can provide structured training to candidates seeking Chartership. We also provide targeted monthly training sessions for candidates seeking chartership in the Institution of Structural Engineers.
