Project Structural Engineer

We have a vacancy for an experienced engineer to assist with the preparation and delivery of structural engineering designs. This is a unique role for a Structural Engineer to join CampbellReith’s Birmingham office, working on an exciting mix of permanent building structures and temporary demountable structures designs for high profile clients. The role offers hands on involvement from concept through to delivery, including design development, coordination, and on site sign off of event structures.

The Role

You’ll be involved in:

  • Producing design calculations for building structures and temporary demountable structures for the event industry.
  • Undertaking site inspections for temporary demountable structures major venues throughout the UK.
  • Undertaking site visits, surveys and inspections of structural works and existing buildings.
  • Undertaking site visits, surveys and inspections of structural works and existing buildings.
  • Assisting in writing and preparing reports or sections thereof.

About You

The role would suit an experienced structural engineer with some recent experience of UK codes and Building Regulations and who is looking to continue working towards chartered status. Ideally, you’ll have:

  • BEng, Meng or MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Experience of design in all materials (circa 3 years + post qualification)
  • Recent experience of detailed design for a variety of Structural Projects
  • Experience in a range of relevant analytical software packages and 3D modelling; SCIA is highly desirable but not essential
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Eurocodes, Building Regulations and industry guidance
  • Experience of using proprietary software e.g. SCIA, Masterseries and Word/Excel
  • A questioning / challenging approach
  • Ability to apply engineering judgment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to manage time and work to deadlines
  • Commitment to producing high-quality work including reports
  • Commitment to continuous professional development

Candidates must hold a full UK driving licence and be flexible in their approach to work, with occasional travel to our CampbellReith offices and to event sites, as required. Undertaking site inspections for temporary exhibition and events will require regular travel across the north of the UK, including overnight stays away from home, approximately once a month.

Training

CampbellReith operates a Company Approved Training Scheme through the Institution of Civil Engineers and can provide structured training to candidates seeking Chartership. We also provide targeted monthly training sessions for candidates seeking chartership in the Institution of Structural Engineers.
