CampbellReith participates in Innovate Guildford Science Event

15 March 2016

CampbellReith participated in and exhibited at the Innovate Guildford festival on Saturday 12 March, a daylong event aimed at showcasing different aspects of the Science disciplines, to encourage young students to embrace science.

Starting at ten o’clock in the morning, the event was open to everyone, from young students to families with younger children. “Attendance exceeded all expectations,” members of the event’s committee said. The venue was busy all day long.

CampbellReith’s exhibition stand offered visitors different approaches and perspectives of engineering. Anyone with a genuine interest in engineering had the chance to speak to some members of staff about the specifics of CampbellReith’s daily work, as well as to get familiar with 3D models of some of CampbellReith’s current projects.

A small scale construction site, including a remote controlled crane and excavator, was the main attraction for the younger visitors. They participated in the excavation challenge, which offered them an opportunity to get a hands-on approach by controlling the crane. To make the recreation more real, anyone using the crane had to wear safety equipment, such as a reflective vest, goggles and gloves. Some of the younger participants got really competitive to be the quickest ones, in order to win the grand prize – a millennial falcon drone, which got the attention of the adults as well.

Adam Fisher, Associate at CampbellReith and main organiser of the Practice’s exhibition stand, said: “It has been a great success; we had not expected such a fantastic response from all visitors.”

Innovate Guildford was one of the activities organised around the UK during British Science Week, which started on Friday 11 March and ends on Sunday 20 March 2016.
