Bow School’s new building – a fresh start in a cheerful environment

30 July 2015

Bow School is a secondary school and sixth form for boys and girls, located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. In September 2014 the school moved from the old site off Fairfield Road, Bow to a new site 1 mile to the south-east by Bow Locks, in a brand new building designed by Van Heyningen and Haward Architects.

CampbellReith’s engineers provided geotechnical and environmental services for the new building project.

Initially, the Environment Agency had objections to the school project, proposed by Bouygues UK. CampbellReith was asked to investigate and review all the available data in order to demonstrate that the site was not a risk to the Limehouse Cut canal which runs adjacent to the site’s eastern boundary.

The team demonstrated there were no reasons for the objections and saved time and money for the contractors by reducing unnecessary costs for waste disposal and importing more soil, and by completing all work before the required deadline. It was also proved that the proposed foundation and drainage would not adversely impact groundwater.

The new building with its modern touch to design provides a cheerful environment for the students of Bow School.
