After graduating with an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, I joined the Laing Technology Group in the late 1980s. Here, I had the opportunity to work on site and in the office, combining contracting and consultancy to get a full overview of the industry and develop my skills.
I worked as a ground investigation specialist before joining CampbellReith in 1999 to set up their ground engineering team. Since then, we have developed a talented team of engineers and engineering geologists from all over the world, with a huge range of experience.
Working with such a diverse and dedicated team has been one of the many highlights of my role. The vast range of projects we are involved in spans all of our practice’s sectors – regeneration, earthworks, foundations, deep basements, slope stability, retaining walls, and tunnel and building damage assessments.
In 2024 I was named one of the top 20 women in ground engineering, recognising not only my professional contributions, but my commitment to mentoring and advocacy for diversity in engineering too. Although I have stepped back from a full time career in ground engineering, I am still actively involved in mentoring and training, whilst also encouraging others to support their professional bodies and promote learning and new technologies in our industry.
Outside of engineering
It is now the time in my career when I can give something back beyond ground engineering. Outside of CampbellReith, I’m a community volunteer and Board Member for a homelessness charity where I can bring some of the skills I’ve learned to a new sector and learn new skills myself.
