Earth Science Careers Fair

9 April 2026

Rose McCready, one of our Senior Geotechnical Engineers and a former student of Richard Huish College, was delighted to take part in the recent Earth Science Careers Fair hosted by the college. The event brought together leading organisations from across the environmental, geoscience, and sustainability sectors to support and inspire the next generation of industry professionals.

The fair gave students an excellent opportunity to explore the diverse range of career paths linked to Earth Sciences, engage directly with industry specialists, and gain meaningful insights into real-world roles, entry routes, and the skills required for future employment.

Rose spoke with students about her own experiences in geotechnical engineering, sharing practical examples of the types of projects and challenges faced within the industry. She also highlighted the breadth of opportunities available with a geography background, showcasing roles undertaken by colleagues across CampbellReith’s Land Quality, Development Planning, and Transport Planning teams.

As part of the session, students examined the geological map of the local area and discussed how the properties of different geological units can influence geohazards and their implications for proposed developments providing a valuable real-world exercise linking classroom learning to professional practice.

Events like this are an important part of supporting young people to make confident, informed decisions about their futures, and we are always pleased to contribute to initiatives that connect students with industry.

Thank you to Richard Huish College for organising such a well-attended and impactful event and to all the students who took part.
