Steve Calder

Steve has over 40 years of structural engineering experience. He has been with CampbellReith since 1981 and became a Partner of the practice in 1989 and a Senior Partner in 1999.

Steve has been responsible for a number of the practice’s most prestigious projects and has particular experience in hotel design, schools, theatre and exhibition hall venues.

Steve has many years’ experience of delivering high quality structural engineering solutions for major complex engineering projects. He has also carried out a considerable number of special investigations and studies, including the appraisal of marine structures, HAC investigations, analysis of multi-storey building defects and failures, and cladding failure investigations.

Since 1991 Steve has been responsible for a number of the practice’s major hotel, retail, leisure and arts projects. These include the refurbishment of the Palace Theatre and Adelphi Theatres for the Really Useful Group, together with ongoing consultancy advice for Earls Court, Olympia and ExCeL Exhibition Centres.

Steve was extensively involved in the design and review of the temporary overlay structures for the London 2012 Olympics, involving over 115,000 m² of temporary structures at 29 competition venues, as well as the Rio 2016 Olympics and the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Steve is a keen follower of most sports involving a ball, although sadly these days this is largely confined to a watching brief.
