Meet the team

Sophie Vaughan

Graduate Structural Engineer

In 2018-2019 I completed a twelve-month placement with CampbellReith, gaining experience on projects such as the Oxford Science Park. I am very excited to re-join the structures team as a graduate after recently graduating from University of Bath with a Masters in Civil and Architectural Engineering. During my studies, I completed a dissertation which investigated and compared the benefits and drawbacks of using large spans in commercial buildings. I discovered larger spans offer greater flexibility in a space thereby extending the buildings’ lifespan however, this comes at a greater capital carbon cost. My dissertation and my growing concern regarding the current climate crisis has fuelled my determination to create sustainable buildings in my career.

My passion lies in working collaboratively to achieve a solution that is both low in embodied carbon and has a positive impact on the people that use the building.

Outside of engineering

Outside of work I try to spend as much time outdoors as possible. I enjoy surfing, especially in Cornwall and travelling anywhere and everywhere. In 2019, I hiked Machu Pichu and Rainbow Mountain, and in 2017 I volunteered in Fiji to help construct a school.
