I started my career as a site engineer in the South West Iran gas fields for a UK contractor. Here, I was part of a team managing local construction workers on large scale gas pumping stations. I took the opportunity to visit historical sites from the ancient Persian Empire!
Then, I joined a medium sized UK and Civil Structural Consultancy, developing design experience on supermarkets, offices, residential leisure and industrial facilities. This was followed by a Senior Engineer role in the small London office of a Manchester based consultant leading the structural design of the complex redevelopment of a 1920s department store on Oxford Street.
30 years later, I still provide structural design services to the current owner of the building, I also became involved in the structural assessments of a 1960s high rise block of flats; a relevant expertise that is regrettably relevant in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire.
My experience as an engineer has enabled me to support a wide range of people from developer clients, whom we help create wealth, to residents of poor quality housing estates o whom I can explain in lay terms who we will help renew their estate and regenerate communities.
Outside of engineering
In my spare time, I enjoy travelling, theatre and music.
