Dodowa Hospital Bags Two More Awards

15 July 2016

On July 14th the District Hospitals Project – Dodowa Hospital in Ghana was awarded with two Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Engineering Excellence awards. The awards were the Engineered in South East England award and the Thames Valley Award for Engineering Excellence. The professional recognition for this project shows how engineering can achieve social impact by combining technical excellence and sustainable design.

The hospital is the first of six district hospitals being constructed and equipped for the Ministry of Health by NMS Infrastructure Group and was designed in London and the South East by TP Bennett and Sprunt Architects and CampbellReith. Project partner Mike Allen said ‘This is a fantastic good news story at the culmination of this first stage of the district hospitals project. The new facilities will vastly increase capacity and improve the quality of healthcare in these areas of great need. We are very proud of our team and so pleased to see the results of the huge effort by everyone involved.’

The ICE Awards ceremony was presented by ICE President Sir John Armitage and TopGear and Fifth Gear presenter Tiff Needell whose first career was as a Civil Engineer. The CRH team in attendance were partners Mike Allen, Simon Boots and Alex Forbes and Senior Engineers Michael Chester and Mike Niisato. Fred Hsu from our client NMSi and Architect Robert Sprunt also attended.

A team of structural, civil and geotechnical engineers have worked in this project since 2013, both from the UK and from the site in Ghana in collaboration with local colleagues. The project has involved everything from the use of satellite imagery, drones, Revit 3D, PDS 3D cut and fill analysis to sustainable drainage, solar energy, modern composite wall systems and low energy self-sufficient sewerage treatments.
