Ramesh Bedadala

Senior BIM Technician

When I was in my early teens, I used to watch my cousin fill large tracing papers using his Staedtler draughting pens. I was mesmerised by the outcome, even though I hadn’t a clue about the technical aspects. I did my Diploma in Civil Engineering in India and finally got a chance to use the pens.

My journey as a draughtsman from India took me to different countries: Singapore, New Zealand and the UK. I believe working in different countries, with different building codes, has given me clear insight into various ways of dealing with any project. I was/am lucky enough to work on some of the most interesting and demanding projects with some prestigious consulting firms. I have worked on schools, hospitals, hotels, railway stations and high-rise buildings.

For a few years I was freelancing.┬áDuring that period I acquired valuable experience in BIM by studying different ways of modelling a project. I use that experience in creating models to industry standards. I find every project is as challenging as the last one – big or small – concrete or steel. I also think that engineering is a lifelong learning discipline because of the dissimilarity between projects and the ever-evolving nature of technology.

Reading, listening to music and watching films are my favourite indoor pastime. I love to be on a tennis court and summer Sundays are dedicated to cricket. I also follow baseball - Oakland Athletics is my favourite team.
