Radley College is an independent boarding school near Oxford. Its Clock Tower Court is an impressive development, right in the busy heart of the College. CampbellReith provided structural and civil engineering services for the extension and alteration of existing buildings at Radley College, including the Clock Tower Court.
Its two-storey steel frame structure supports larger areas of cross laminated roof timber. The roof comprises of six pyramid shaped roofs and three prism shaped roofs supported by a steel frame. Composite concrete/metal slabs are used for the flat areas of the roof and floor.
In the classroom areas, concrete plate floors with insitu concrete topping were used to provide an exposed soffit. External walls were constructed of brick/blog cavity tied to the steel frame with areas of glazed curtain walling.
Radley College won the RIBA South Regional Award 2014 and Oxford Preservation Trust Award 2014 for this beautiful project.
