Oxford Science Park, Danby Building

The Danby building located at the gateway of the Oxford Science Park offers 55,700 ft² of office accommodation. CampbellReith provided structural, civil and transportation services for this project.

The building features a lightweight Brise Soleil, reducing internal heat by deflecting sunlight. The structure with its distinctive oversailing roof, has three-storey and four-storey wings joined by a central atrium.

Following a feasibility study, CampbellReith proposed a Slimdek light steel frame as the most economical solution. This avoids the use of downstand beams and offers complete flexibility to integrate mechanical and electrical services.

3D computer modelling software accelerated the design process. CampbellReith carried out wind tests to accurately assess the wind loads acting on the complex geometry of the oversailing roof. The results were put into the model to complete the design.
