James Clay

James is a chartered environmental consultant and specialist in land condition. He has over 20 years’ experience in the remediation of brownfield sites and the development of solutions with respect to below ground issues.

James has coordinated the Land Quality department at CampbellReith since 2004 and been a Partner in the Practice since 2010.  Many of the sites he has worked on, including collieries, shipyards, landfills and steelworks, have had difficult land contamination issues requiring consideration alongside civil, structural and geotechnical design matters. The typical remedial budgets for his schemes often fall within the £10m+ bracket. Several of his projects have received industry design and innovation awards.

James has published a number of articles in Applied Geochemistry, Brownfield Briefing and Ground Engineering: he was recently a member of the Project Steering Group for the Asbestos in Soils publication.

In his spare time, James is a keen mountain biker, traveller and father of two.
