This building on Coleg Menai’s Llangefni campus provides excellent training facilities for students to gain employment in three main parts of the energy sector.
The energy and fabrication centre offers training and education facilities for engineering and fabrication, in particular welding and steel fabrication. The building also provides training for the nuclear industry covering defence, decommissioning, operations, fuel cycle, waste management and new nuclear build.
This £6m Energy & Fabrication building comprises a new two storey steel framed building with composite slab construction. Structures have been arranged to accommodate flexible classroom and workshop facilities to enable instrumentation and control systems to be incorporated into the college curriculum.
CampbellReith was responsible for providing Civil and Structural design services.
This is a high performing building, with a number of low/zero carbon solutions on site, to reduce emissions. The building also meets the requirements of the College in that they now have an innovative, new and sustainable building to further enhance teaching and learning on campus.
It has also achieved its funding requirement, which was to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. This has enabled the building to be recognised as the highest scoring building in Wales and was the Winner of the BREEAM Award for Wales 2011.
