CampbellReith worked on this £60m development with TP Bennett Architects and Mace, the contractor.
A City University project on Goswell Road, Islington, it consists of two new student accommodation buildings, as well as a sports hall, new gyms and additional office/teaching space.
The Goswell Sports Centre building has a concrete substructure supporting steel frame construction from the ground to sixth floor level. Long span composite cellular beams support thick reinforced concrete floor slabs.
CampbellReith provided a cost-effective geotechnical solution for the building foundations. Ammonia found in the site’s groundwater is harmful to concrete and, using groundwater modelling. CampbellReith saved costs by limiting the number of foundations requiring a higher specification concrete mix.
