CampbellReith was appointed to undertake design services from stage D+/E onwards to implement ACS Cobham International School’s proposals for a new performing arts centre and food court. This project was constructed in two phases.
The first phase involved the construction of a new multi-level steel framed link building between two existing blocks providing new teaching space and a food court /formal dining room. The lower floor was bounded on three sides by a contiguous piled wall to allow the new structure to cut into the sloping ground whilst tieing into the adjacent buildings at the upper floor levels.
Phase 2 involved the conversion of an existing cafetorium into new Performance Auditorium with a new stage and fly tower for scene changing. The cutting and carving of the existing structure lead to a significant amount of temporary works and the new steel frame was designed to reinstate stability to the partially demolished adjoining structures. Phase two also has an associated new link building providing further teaching space and drama equipment storage.
Site work commenced in April 2012 and CampbellReith worked to an accelerated programme to ensure the steelwork package could be tendered early to suit the very tight construction programme.
